⬩ Backstory ⬩

Hailing originally from Old Sharlayan, Alaryk does not speak kindly of his mother. He left Old Sharlayan in his late teens, and moved to Limsa Lominsa to continue his studies as an arcanist. He still has some mannerisms that imply a background in Magic even when he is holding a sword. His origin and complicated relationship with the Voidsent has led him to paint himself as somebody undesirable and monstrous. It was easier to embrace than to deny, he was always a miserable weird kid and his behavior tended toward downright odd, so he stopped fighting it long ago.... Voidsent tendencies following him like a shadow.Alaryk comes across as very arrogant, aloof, stubborn, and cruel. If he is becoming too mean, PM me and I'll back him off. RP is only fun if everyone's having fun.Once somebody gets to know him though, they find the deeper, better qualities that even he often forgets he has. He can be patient though its rare, and he pays more attention to people than he pretends. His stubbornness becomes loyalty to those who earn it, and he defends those precious few to the end.

Alaryk has a number of unsettling qualities and habits. Rumours abound that he is Voidsent and feeds on Aether. Other rumours claim he consumes the blood of Voidsent, or that he is some other kind of vampire. Monster-Hunters, those who are similarly seen as monstrous, or those merely looking to see if the rumours are true may have cause to talk to him.

Plagued by nightmares and suffering from insomnia and frequent headaches Alaryk often has cause to seek remedies for various ills. His recklessness in combat only increases the frequency of his trips to the infirmary.

An avid reader and researcher, Alaryk has always loved books. If you have any rare volumes Alaryk likely has interest. Conversely, if you are searching for a specific tome, Alaryk may have heard of it or may be willing to aid in your search.

Having a fondness of Bergamot tea (and a dependency on the caffeine) as well as a preference for dry wine and oranges, Alaryk may be keeping an eye out for merchants selling or trading such wares. He might also be in the market for other things, though, such as jewelry, sweets, and other gifts for his friends.

Alaryk's best friend, he knew Odelle in Sharlayan before he left. They reunited several years later under unexpected circumstances. Despite the fact that he challenges her often, and rises to the occasion of her ire (they are often found bickering), Odelle is the person he is most loyal to.
